Global Education:
Global education provides an understanding and knowledge of culture, language, geography and global perspectives. A global education allows students to understand their roles in a global community and teaches them how their actions can affect citizens throughout the world.
Global education is important in our classrooms because it promotes understanding of our interdependence, sustainable futures, developing skills of critical and creative thinking, understanding of social justice, human rights that contribute to peace building and conflict resolution.
The Common Core standards, mathematical practices, and the global competencies are put in place to build these important communication and critical thinking skills that our student’s need to thrive in the 21st century.

The following video shows how the world is changing at an unprecedented pace. In order to prepare our students for the 21st century, lessons must go beyond the "3 R's" and foster 21st century skills. Skills like critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity will be essential for students to take on the challenges and opportunities that face them in the 21st century.

Dawn Maxwell teaches high school math, mostly geometry, at Central High School in Central Phoenix, Arizona. She has been teaching math for over 20 years and at Central HS the past eight years. She traveled to Morocco as a part of the Teachers for Global Classrooms Program through IREX to learn more about global education.
